Plain version: we collect only what we need to run our early-access list and help plan your trip, we never sell it, we only share anonymized trends if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete it at any time.
Who we are
Big Trip Club is a new group travel service based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, launching soon. You can reach us at hello@bigtripclub.com. We follow Canada's privacy law (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
What we collect
- Your email address from our signup form.
- If you choose to fill in the optional second step: first name, who is going, group size, rough timing, trip style, where you are leaving from, where your group wants to go, any trip ideas you mark as interesting, and whether you usually organize.
- If you use the trip quiz or group swipe and ask us to send your match: your email, your quiz answers or the group's combined swipes (first names and yes or no picks), the matched trip idea and the group name. Swipes you collect from others are stored on your own device until you choose to send the match.
- A short referral code made from your email, and the code of the person who shared the link with you, if any. We use these only to see who invited whom.
- Your consent choices (email updates, and the separate optional trends opt-in), with the date and time you gave them.
- Basic technical data our website host records to keep the site running and stop spam, such as IP address and browser type.
We do not ask for payment details, passport details or health information on this site.
Why we collect it
- To add you to the early-access list and tell you when we launch.
- If you agree, to email you trip ideas and updates that fit your group.
- To understand what kinds of group trips people want, so we can plan our services.
- Only if you tick the separate optional box: to improve trip matching and to prepare anonymized, aggregated travel trends for partners such as hotels, resorts, cruise lines and tourism boards.
We will not use your information for any other purpose without asking you first.
Your consent and unsubscribing
We only send marketing emails if you tick the consent box. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribe requests within 10 business days. You can also email hello@bigtripclub.com to withdraw consent at any time. We will not text your mobile number for marketing unless you separately agree to texts.
Anonymized travel trends (optional)
This is a separate opt-in, unticked by default, and you can join the list without it. If you tick it, we may combine your answers with many other people's to describe overall demand, for example "family groups of 8 to 12 want short-flight beach trips in March". Trends shared with partners never include your name, email, phone number or your individual answers, and we only report groups large enough that no one person can be picked out. Partners may pay us for these reports. You can withdraw this consent at any time by emailing hello@bigtripclub.com, and we stop including your answers in future reports.
Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site and send email, such as our website host and email service, and only so they can do that work for us. Some of these providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessed by courts or authorities under local law. We choose providers that protect personal information and we remain responsible for it.
When we launch and you ask us to plan a trip, we will tell you before sharing any details with a travel supplier or host agency.
How long we keep it
We keep your signup details while you are on the list. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we remove it, except for a record that you opted out so we do not contact you again.
How we protect it
We limit access to the people who need it and use reputable providers with secure, encrypted connections.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Email hello@bigtripclub.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we will ask for your consent again.
